Mentawai Surf Camp Owner’s Body Found

The body of American Eric Foraker (43) who was the owner/operator of Southern Mentawai Outpost was found on a nearby island yesterday (12/6/2024).

It was reported that at around 6:30pm (11/6/2024) he was surfing at Rags but failed to return to the boat. The two others he was surfing with sounded the alarm.

Mentawai SAR (Search and Rescue) joined the search and around 00.30 (12/6/2024) found a broken surfboard on the edge of the water on Pitoijat Island.

On the same day at 08.00, the Mentawai SAR joint team received information from the public that the victim had been found dead. An evacuation was carried out taking his body to Sikakap health center.

Eric is survived by his wife and young daughter who were living with him at the surf camp located in front of Thunders surf spot.

  • Eric we had some all time trips together over the years. From the very first trip on Addiction, to being on the boat when the earth quake changed so many places in the Ments forever. Trips that never stopped giving. Going on surf trips with mates on Addiction with you gave so many people life time memories and for that we all thank you. Every trip we did you would always take us somewhere new to surf. I will miss the fun times with you old mate and the night crossings in the cabin. With you, l will never forget that one 12 to 15 heaving barrel you got at Thunders and you told me that you wanted to build a camp there. Well mate you did live your dream by building it and creating a great spot for people to enjoy. My sincere condolences to all your family. R.l.P. Old mate. Redeye
